creating casa is a curatorial collective unifying and empowering the local Latinx community in the Washington metropolitan area through the arts and humanities.
We are committed to the expression and preservation of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, whose colonial histories converge under the complex concept of Latinidad in the D.C. region and beyond. We enact our commitment to our communities and vision by:

  • Curating spaces for the creative expression of multiple and marginal experiences
  • Facilitating critical conversations that question, challenge, and articulate commonalities and differences among Latinxs in the D.C. metro area
  • Holding safe, accessible, and joyful space for queer, disabled, Black, Indigenous, and people of color to gather collectively
  • Documenting the multiplicity of our histories and current experiences
  • Collaborating with like-minded community members to educate and dismantle dominant systems of power that exercise racism, sexism, heterosexism, classism, and ableism
